In 1968, Atlantic's soul roster had the deepest bench of any soul label in maybe human history: In addition to Stax's roster, the label had Solomon Burke, Aretha Franklin, Clarence Carter and King Curtis. It was the perfect time to do what the seasons demanded: compile a holiday album. Originally released in 1968, Soul Christmas is an iconic collection of the best 1968 soul music had to offer, with Otis Redding doing two songs (his ''White Christmas'' is worth the price of admission alone), Joe Tex tearing down an original, and King Curtis blowing his sax all over a holiday smash.
